Magical Journeys weekly writing workshops are available both online and in person. These are dedicated to creative flow, designed to prompt story and to encourage writing practice. They are focused more on process than on product so there is lots of raw writing in the room. We work in wonder and see what comes out of that. Workshops last two hours and can be booked either as a group of ten or individually.
Constellations: This is a ten month course dedicated to enabling writers to produce an extended piece of work. The Constellation Workshop is a way of working in which we commit to each other and to our work in a sustained act of thoughtful, generous and creative collaboration. It extends the practice of the Magical Journeys regular workshops into something that combines the powerful creative emphasis on process with the technical rigour and craft required for product.
In Constellations we have worked with memoir, life writing, short stories, poetry, performance work, essays, business management manuals and novels. Each discipline requires a different set of responses from the writers involved. Life writing, memoir, autobiography, historical projects - these owe a special allegiance to what we might call facts. This brings us into the contested territory of truth and fiction. The Constellations process works for these projects (and for novels, plays or works of shorter fiction) because it is fundamentally interested in discovering something true and deep and, if possible, full of grace. The work of Constellations is to reach, through language, for that precise and excitingly resonant expression of what it is we want to say. The sessions will combine creative work within the scope of your project, and also provide you with an extensive repertoire of skills and tools with which to continue your work. You will be encouraged and enabled to become the writer people believe you are, the writer you always hoped you would be.
